Brilliant love this shop
Ely City Cycle Centre is an amazing old-fashioned Aladdin's cave type department store. The stock they hold is amazing. As a pretty keen military model maker I love being able to buy stuff from a proper shop, instead of online. Unfortunately their prices are often a bit on the steep side (for kits). But it's the only really good model shop left in Cambridgeshire, so far as I know. And they also have all those other departments: I've bought ball-bearings for home DIY projects off the bike guys, a Lego dumper truck (as a nostalgic treat when I was flush after an illustration job), and all sorts from the DIY/home section. My wife loves and regularly shops at the haberdashery department. So, for stock its an unreserved five stars. For service? Hmmm, I'd have to say just three or four. Some of the staff are reasonably friendly, but some are less so. I've shopped here many, many times, and over many, many years, but haven't built up the friendly rapport I enjoy elsewhere. (There's one particular member of staff who always makes me feel that I'm suspected of being a shoplifter!) But I love this place for being so old-fashioned and diverse. I just wish I was richer and could spend more in there, and help ensure we don't lose all such high street emporiums!
Awesome model shop. Use it or lose it
Amazing Alladin's cave full of interesting and useful stuff. Who knew you could still buy bath enamel? Proper old-school hardware shop, well stocked cycle center and decent toys and models too.
This store is actually five in one. It is a toy shop, a haberdashery, a hardware, a bicycle shop & best of all (for me) a very well stocked model store with everything from airplanes, to tanks & back again plus all the tools you would need to really enjoy the hobby. They are well stocked on Humbrol & Tamika & Airfix & if your thing is railways then they have everything you might need as well. I love coming here but unfortunately my self control suffers & I always end up buying stuff. I know they're a little dear but I don't mind paying when this place is so close to where I live & I love supporting the small man.
