My original review was unfair... 2 stars without explanation is bad form on my part, so I apologise to Castle Lodge management.Originally I was struck by the decoration and general condition of Castle Lodge. Whilst being incredibly clean, the place has certainly seen better decades and is in good need of a refurbishment.Whilst the automated pin-code locks on the main entrance and the individual rooms of the hotel work to a sufficient standard, the lack of any staff on site for most of our stay felt somewhat impersonal.Our room itself was I gather one of the larger, along with being one of the most expensive, which is where I take objection. I felt that 100 per night was not worth that double room, even if it has an old 4-poster bed. Our room had an en-suit, which consisted of an old small shower cubicle and toilet. The sink itself was in the main room, which if you need to use the sink in the night, could proved distracting to others staying.The breakfast was fine, with fry-ups made to order and a selection of boxed cereal, juice and toast also available.Our stay was fine. It was reasonably comfortable and clean, I just felt it was expensive given the state of repair and level of staffing. Castle Lodge has certainly seen better days and could use some investment.
Practical lodgings as near city centre, good value.
Nice clean room. Missed breakfast unfortunately. Floorboards above our room were a but creaky and the guest seemed to enjoy that
Unusual building a few minutes walk from the high street. Pleasant spacious room and limited but nice breakfast. You have to remember the door codes emailed to you as there is no reception.
The rooms where getting modernised as they gogreat owners and breakfast was good in the morning just a miserable breakfast lady a smile wouldnt go a miss I got upgraded to the 4 poster room was really happy Clean tidy just what i needed to get my head down for he night
