We went for a meal here on Christmas day. The service was excellent, but the food left something to be desired. It may have a Michelin star chef at the moment, and the 5 course meal at 95 a head was mediocre at best. It put a bit of a dampener on Christmas. The goose was very tough (it was more of a steak) and they told us when complaining that they actually had turkey all along. Why not serve that instead of serving mediocre goose. They did give us a partial refund but it left a bit of a dampener, and the chef did agree it was overly tough.I would consider revisiting on a normal day if the menu wasn't too pretentious - the whole Michelin star thing seems to have overtaken simple cooking.
Beautifully relaxed with a great atmosphere. Food was delicious and we had a lovely bottle of wine. Nice selection of gin.
Mid week visit with family so fairly quiet restaurant. Nice decor but odd choice of background music (techno/dance). The general ambience didn't come through as being warm; staff could have been a little less robotic. Wishing to visit for a number of years, I had high expectations of the food but sadly wasn't impressed. Dish presentation was fine; certainly not spectacular but the rather bland flavours ultimately resulted in an underwhelming experience for us.
Stayed here as part of a conference. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the William Holland copper baths were luxurious. All the staff were extremely helpful and the food served for dinner and breakfast was delicious. A couple of minor points for improvement was the temperature of the heating in hotel was far too high. The radiators were on full blast even though it was 17 degrees outside. Also my room faced the main street, the noise of the pedestrian crossing beeps was very annoying. Could a silent crossing to be installed instead by the Council? Overall though a lovely boutique hotel.
Very classy hotel. Nice decor and the master rooms were extremely spacious and very clean. Stayed in room 10 which had a good view of the cathedral. No parking but a small drop off point. I paid for valet parking but as parking is free in Ely, may have been better parking myself. That said, the valet parking was efficient
